Where can you go hiking in Skellefteå?

Skellefteå offers hiking trails in coastal landscapes, forests and nature reserves. Popular areas include Bjuröklubb, Vitberget and Kalvträsk. You’ll find everything from short walking loops to longer routes such as the Mineral Trail.

Where can you go kayaking in Skellefteå?

Kayaking is popular on the Skellefte River, along the coast and on inland lakes. There are calm waters suitable for beginners as well as more open stretches for experienced paddlers. Equipment rental and guided tours are available in several locations during the season.

Are there good cross-country ski trails in Skellefteå?

Yes, Skellefteå offers one of Sweden’s top cross-country ski systems at Vitberget, with ski-in/ski-out accommodation and trails for both recreational skiing and training. In addition, there are around 30 association-maintained ski trails throughout the municipality, many with floodlighting.

The Northern Lights can be seen from August to March when the evenings are dark and the skies are clear. For the best experience, leave the city lights and head to darker coastal areas. Bjuröklubb and Kalvträsk are two good viewing spots.
