Ongoing Projects

Västerbotten Sweden

The project aims to connect, build knowledge among, and promote businesses within Västerbotten’s tourism industry, with a focus on export. Under the shared place brand Västerbotten Sweden, the project works to help more businesses export quality-assured, sustainable experiences and offers to international visitors. This is done through initiatives that increase export readiness, product development, marketing efforts, and a digital platform. The project will also initiate certification processes for the participating destination organizations to become sustainable destinations according to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s criteria (or equivalent), while also building internal capacity and knowledge to ensure sustainable export growth.

This is a collaborative project between Gold of Lapland, Visit Umeå, Visit Skellefteå, and Region Västerbotten Turism. It is made possible with funding from the European Regional Development Fund for Upper Norrland, Region Västerbotten, and contributions from the participating partners. Additional co-funders and collaborators include the municipalities of Norsjö, Malå, Lycksele, Åsele, Vilhelmina, Dorotea, Sorsele, Storuman, Skellefteå, and Umeå.

Project period: 2023–2025
Funding: SEK 30 million

Bothnian Coastal Route

The Bothnian Coastal Route project aims to increase awareness of the route across the Kvarken strait and around the Bothnian Bay as an attractive travel corridor for both international visitors and locals. The project seeks to highlight reasons to visit destinations along the route by showcasing their wide range of experiences, while also creating better conditions for sustainable growth. With approved funding, the project represents a broad collaboration between three Swedish and four Finnish organizations as project partners in a three-year Interreg Aurora project, starting in January 2023.

Project period: 2023–2025
